Career Post Number 1

The Websites  Used for My Online Research Project
By, Savannah Harding

My name is Savannah Harding. I am in the BBA program at Bryant and Stratton College. My concentration is Human Resource Management. Our First assignment in our COMM 115 class was to do a online research project that required us to do research related to our field of choice. The occupations that I am interested in is Human Resource Management, Administrator or Administrative Assistant, and being a College Professor..In this Blog I will decribe five websites that I used for my online research project.
The first website that I used was www.O*Net.org. This website gives you the option to search any occupation that you may be interested in. I like this website because it is very descriptive when describing occupations. It doesn't give you a long drawn out explanation. This site is straight to the point. The options on this website are; task, tools and technology ,knowledge, skills, abilities, work context, education, interest, work styles, work values, and related occupations.
The second website is  www.bls.gov. This website belongs to The Bureau Of Labor and Statistics. The information is listed in their Occupational Outlook Handbook. I used this website because this site was mentioned in class as one that is official. The statistics are recent and the website is very descriptive. The options included: duties, work environment, how to become a Human Resource Manager, pay with graph charts, and job outlook.
The third website that I used was www.allbusinessschools. The information that was given were not as descriptive as the previous websites listed above. This website did not give a lot of information which is why I will not be using this website for my final Professional Plan. The areas that was listed was; education, job description, and career options.
The fourth website that I used was www.shrm.org. This website  is managed by the society for Human Resource Management. This website was more for Human Resource Managers in the field that are looking for career resources. The options included are, HR topics, legal issues, HR standards and strategy, public policy, education and certification, conferences, publications, communities, and HR answers. This website was helpful because it gave me a idea of what I can expect when and if I become a Human Resource Manager.
Finally, www.managment.org is a free management library maintained by Manama Carter, MBA, PHD.  This website includes a introduction/field and roles of HR, talent management, and general resources about HR. The lesson about things to look for that makes a website credible was very helpful when doing this project. I found many websites that were not credible and I now know what to look for whenever I have to develop a research project in the future.
